The following weavers were awarded grants in 2024

The Trust had an unprecedented number of very good applications in 2024. We were pleased to be able to make twelve awards in all. Six main awards following an interview, and for the first time six small grants were made without interview.

The main Awards were:

Patrick Stratton £1,000

  • the purchase of a new loom plus studio time

Sven Steinmetz £4,000

  • research project for the study and replication of a 19th century seamless woven corset

Pamela Abad £2,000

  • studio time to develop a series of tapestries

Kendall Clarke £2,000

  • tuition with a tapestry weaver

  • Studio rent and time to develop a new body of work

Alice Fox £3,000

  • Flax processing and equipment

  • Studio time for the development of a new body of flax-centred work

Sophia Fenlon and Stephanie Rolph (joint application) £4,000

  • A grant towards payment for residencies in the Netherlands, including:

  • Cost of Bespoke Industrial Weaving Training at Textiel Lab

  • Cost of Footwear Construction training course at Schoenkwartier

Small grants without interview were made to:

Sara Brennan £1,000

  • Studio rent and photography of her work for a catalogue

  • Production of two pieces of work for a two person exhibition in North Wales

Shelly Goldsmith £1,000

  • Filming and editing of a project to document a body of tapestry work revealing the back story to thinking and process

Chantal Allen £600 for:

  • The purchase of a fan (ondulé) reed and experimental yarns to create a new body of work

Jill Walker £550 for:

  • The purchase of a large floor scaffolding loom and specialist yarn in order to create larger tapestries and work on multiple warps across the frame

Margaret Jones £750

  • Studio time
