If you don't have it, get yourself Issue 282 Summer 2022 of The Journal for Weavers, Spinners and Dyers!
The current issue of The Journal is dedicated to linen. When planning this issue, our late Trustee Alison Morton was of course in line to write one of the key articles, but as things turned out, sadly, this was not to be. In its place is a detailed article about Alison, her life and her work, written by Trustee Jacy Wall. A major exhibition about Alison was held in January-March at Ruthin Craft Centre, and the article was able to make reference to this, but awkward timing meant that a full review of the show was not possible for this Summer issue. This may appear later in the year, but in the meantime there is much to enjoy and learn about Alison and her work with linen from Jacy's article.
Also in this issue is a wonderfully vivid piece by Deborah White about her mission to restore a unique jacquard handloom. Until the late 1960s it was part of a small Irish workshop producing exquisite damask table linen, and supplying the households of heads of state worldwide, including our own royal family. When the workshop closed in 1968, this was the only loom to be rescued from the bonfire that consumed the rest of the equipment. The Trust was delighted to be able to provide some of the funding needed for this important project.
